Harvey Weinstein ‘tests positive for coronavirus’ in New York state prison
Convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein has reportedly tested positive for coronavirus.
The shamed former Hollywood move mogul was jailed for 23 years earlier this month after he was found guilty of sexual offences.
He was initially held at Rikers Island, a notorious state prison in New York City.
However, he was transferred to the maximum security Wende Correctional Facility near Buffalo in New York state last Wednesday.
Reports in America say the 68-year-old is one of two inmates at the jail who have tested positive for Covid-19 with Weinstein now isolated from the rest of the prison population.
Prison chiefs in New York State last week announced that all visits to inmates would be suspended to help stop the spread of the virus with jails.
At his trial in Manhattan the former movie was convicted of raping a woman in a New York City hotel room in 2013 and forcibly performing oral sex on another woman at his apartment in 2006.
His conviction was hailed as a victory for the #MeToo movement against sexual assault and harassment.
